With the commitment to keep the community informed, we share the most recent update received from Okeanis, the company that manufactures the Sargassum Deflector Barrier. At the end of this note, you can consult the official letter issued by the company, which details the current status of the project and the reasons for the adjustment in the shipping date.
The barrier is now completely finished
. According to the information provided by Okeanis, the barrier system was manufactured, packaged, and was ready for collection since June 17, 2026. Subsequently, it was transferred to the corresponding logistics center for consolidation and loading into containers bound for Mexico.
What caused the delay?
The delay is not related to a manufacturing issue.
Initially, the shipment was scheduled for July 7, it was later rescheduled for July 15. However, the shipping company Maersk reported that it was not possible to accept the cargo due to capacity limitations and availability of space on the vessel.
For this reason, the reservation was moved to the next available departure, currently scheduled for July 22, with only the final confirmation of space from the shipping company pending. Okeanis reported that it maintains ongoing communication with its logistics agent to obtain priority on the next available shipment and avoid further delays.
Why is the monthly maintenance fee already being charged?
We have received some inquiries about the start of the monthly maintenance fee collection for the barrier.
The monthly maintenance fee will be utilized from this moment to have the necessary resources to carry out the preliminary cleaning of the beach and prepare the area where the barrier will be installed. Subsequently, once the system is operational, the same fee will continue to be allocated to the operation and maintenance that the barrier requires to operate efficiently.
We are making progress
We know that this project represents a very important effort for the entire community and we understand the interest in its prompt installation.
We will continue to inform you promptly of any news related to the shipment, the arrival of the equipment in Puerto Aventuras, and the start of the installation work.
At the end of this publication, you can consult the official letter issued by Okeanis, which details the reasons for the change in the shipping date and the current status of the shipment.
